Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 14, 2026
calmfinance is designed as a private, manual personal finance app. Your accounts, account groups, categories, transactions, notes, budgets, goals, investment accounts, tickers, preferences, and imported CSV data are stored on your device unless you choose to sync them through iCloud, back them up, export them, or send information to support.
Data You Store In The App
- Financial records you enter, including balances, transaction amounts, dates, notes, categories, account names, budgets, goals, investment accounts, ticker symbols, holdings, and related history.
- App preferences, including currency choices, appearance settings, screen options, language selection, backup settings, and subscription plan state.
- Security settings needed for App Lock, such as whether passcode and Face ID are enabled. The app-lock passcode is stored in the device Keychain.
- CSV files you choose to import and CSV exports you choose to create or share.
Local Storage And Backups
calmfinance does not operate its own account system or developer server for your financial data. The main app database is stored locally on your device using Apple storage technologies. iCloud Sync is off by default. If you turn it on, Apple CloudKit synchronizes that database through your private iCloud account across your devices.
If you use Backups, calmfinance writes encrypted backup files to the app's iCloud Drive container for your Apple Account. The backup encryption key is stored in iCloud Keychain so your own Apple devices can restore those backups. iCloud and iCloud Keychain are provided by Apple and are subject to Apple's privacy and security practices.
When Data Leaves Your Device
- Currency rates. When currency-rate updates are enabled, the app requests exchange rates for the selected base currency from open.er-api.com. Your transactions, account names, notes, budgets, and goals are not sent with that request.
- Investment quotes. When you search for tickers or refresh investment prices, the app sends ticker search text or symbols to Yahoo Finance to retrieve public market data.
- Purchases. Pro plan prices, purchases, trial eligibility, and restore operations are handled by Apple's StoreKit and the App Store. calmfinance does not receive your payment card details.
- Support. If you send an email to support, your email address and the message content are shared with support through your email provider.
No Ads, Tracking, Or Analytics
calmfinance does not sell your personal data, does not show third-party ads, and does not use your app data to track you across other companies’ apps or websites. The app does not include a third-party analytics SDK.
Security
Face ID authentication is handled by iOS. calmfinance is told only whether authentication succeeded or failed; it does not receive or store your face data.
Backups are encrypted before being written to iCloud Drive. Exported CSV files are not encrypted by calmfinance after you create or share them, so manage exported files carefully.
Your Choices
- You can delete app data from Settings > App > Other > Delete data.
- You can turn iCloud Sync on or off from Settings > Data Sync.
- You can delete iCloud backup files from Settings > Backups.
- You can disable automatic backups in Settings > Backups.
- You can turn off currency-rate updates from the currency picker.
- You can remove App Lock or Face ID from Settings > Security.
- You can delete exported CSV files wherever you saved or shared them.
Retention
Data stored in the app remains on your device until you delete it, delete the app, or replace it by restoring a backup. calmfinance keeps up to 20 backup files in its iCloud Drive backup folder and prunes older backups automatically. Support emails may be retained as long as needed to answer your request and maintain support records.
Contact And Updates
For privacy questions or data requests, contact support@calmfinance.app.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be shown in the app.
